Savvy Career Management: Brand You
FRESH CAREER ARTICLE FROM THE COACHM REPORT NEWSLETTER
Twenty-first century career management is all about creating
"brand you" value, implementing specific steps to "sell"
that value to others, and planning/achieving your career
goals through the process. Personal marketing and research
is where most job seekers fall sadly short. They create a
résumé, answer some want ads, and are often disappointed
with the number and/or quality of interviews that they
obtain. They do not do the tough legwork necessary for true
success. They do not realize that "looking for a job" is
yesterday's employment news.
What do successful people do?
Today's savvy careerists manage their short- and long-term
employment goals from every angle, creating their own future
and their own job security. They know that it takes
motivation and tenacity to run a continual personal
marketing campaign so that when necessary, they can rev into
high gear and move forward without great stress. They know
that:
- When you look for a job, you need to demonstrate value in the eyes of the employer. Value will get you an interview.
- When you demonstrate undeniable value in the interview, that value will get you a job.
- When you consistently achieve results in your career, you create value.
- Marketing your value will create your career.
DON'T assume that good job performance will create employer
and industry recognition.
DO understand that you can create and market a personal
“branded image” that will be recognized throughout your
industry.
